Learning through school projects

“Learning through school projects” is an Erasmus project that started in March 2019. There are five participating countries: Greece, Turkey, Italy, Romania and Croatia. The topic of each mobility was connected to tradition and other things each country is famous for.

The first mobility was in Arta, a small town in Greece. The second mobility was in our school and students from other participating countries were given a tour of Varaždin and Trakošćan, they visited Zagreb and tried our local food. The third, and also last mobility to be held in person, was in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. It was very interesting to see such a big and vibrant city and get to know Turkish culture, especially when seeing their castles and museums and trying their traditional food.

Sadly, the last two mobilities which were supposed to be held in Vasto, Italy and Iaşi, Romania were postponed due to coronavirus. Instead of being held in person, they were held online. The Italian mobility was held in April and the Romanian in May. Although the mobilities were online, we were still able to learn a lot about each country’s traditions. During the Italian mobility, we learned about national heritage of each country, such as different monuments and dances. During the Romanian mobility, we learned about each country’s habits and traditions, such as Romanian and Turkish wedding customs, Italian recipes and Greek holidays.

I think that this was a great experience for all students and teachers participating in the project, especially when we were able to travel to other countries. We truly learned a lot about other countries and got to explore more about our own tradition. This was my first time participating in an Erasmus project and I am very happy that I was a part of it and I hope to be able to participate in more projects in the future.
